MCG helps charity cheese boat get afloat
George Paul of Bradbury & Son was inspired to contact the men and pledge his support after hearing the team's plea for equipment on BBC Radio 2. George asked MCG to help raise awareness of the project, so we've been working with our friends at The Spirit Of... to develop a website www.2skinsinaboat.org.uk and create a buzz to help raise as much money as possible for the cause.
The two rowers, Dave McCartney (44) from Derbyshire and his friend Sean Uttley (44) from Carlisle, are hoping to achieve their aim of rowing across the Irish Sea from Ardglass to Fleetwood, in aid of Help for Heroes and the Royal Dragoon Guards Regimental Association.
They plan to travel the 131 miles over three days, leaving Ardglass on 21 April in an ocean-going rowing boat. The task is made all the more daring as neither man has rowed before and they have only six weeks to make the necessary preparations. The two friends met whilst serving in the Royal Dragoon Guards in the 1990's and were inspired to take on the task after watching the BBC documentary Wounded, which aired at the end of last year.
