Experiencing PR

From 14-year-old celebrity-mad schoolgirls to post-graduates in communications, MCG PR has a busy work experience programme designed to support people interested in a career in PR.

Through links with local schools, Leeds Metropolitan University's highly-regarded PR course and an onslaught from would-be practitioners from around the UK we have opened our doors to many talented young people – most of whom have gone on to have wonderful careers in the industry and some of them now work at MCG.

Workexperience

Director Sarah Chadwick said: "We're passionate about PR and from the very beginning we have welcomed work experience students from many different backgrounds and worked hard to provide them with a programme of activity that gives them a real insight into PR as well as some hands-on experience."

Final year journalism student at Liverpool John Moore University, Sharan Sunner said: "This was my first PR placement so I was quite worried about not knowing what to do due to my lack of experience and was really nervous. But as soon as I got there everyone was lovely and I felt immediately at ease. I was given a lot of work to do and given lots of responsibility which meant I got a lot out of the placement. I have been back since and hope to go back again."

MCG works closely with Leeds Metropolitan University offering placement to students at all stages of their degree. Commenting on the relationship Senior Lecturer, Lucy Laville says: "MCG is very supportive of the public relations students and courses at Leeds Metropolitan University. By providing great work experience opportunities, guest lectures and case study material as well as prizes they allow our students gain invaluable insight into pr campaigns, agency life and mentoring by award winning practitioners. Our students who join MCG on placement opportunities are always made to feel very welcome and a part of the team. They are expected to get involved in real projects including drafting press releases, monitoring the media and liaising with journalists, and in return receive excellent mentoring and career advice."
