Skillfast-UK
Skills shortages in UK industry are often in the news, our client Skillfast-UK challenged the MCG team to tell the other side of the story and consistently communicate its work to tackle the skills gap to a range of audiences.
Skillfast-UK is the Sector Skills Council for fashion and textiles - a sector worth around £10 billion each year to the UK economy. MCG works with Skillfast-UK to raise awareness of its work to transform learning provision across the UK and to ensure qualifications are relevant; not only in their content, but in the way they are delivered.
Our job is to target employers, employees, stakeholders and learning providers with this information. We find the news angle in these technically detailed stories making them relevant for a wide range of media from the broadsheet newspapers to Laundry and Cleaning Today.
When Lord Leitch completed his long-awaited Review of Skills for the Government we took the opportunity to show how Skillfast-UK was already implementing many of his recommendations in its work with businesses in its sector. Our case study of Mulberry's new apprenticeship achieved a full page in the Guardian and a careers piece in the Daily Express as well as coverage in relevant trade publications.
Other successes include regular coverage in the fashion trade journal Drapers, a double page spread in the Times and regular regional business coverage encouraging businesses and employees to make contact with Skillfast-UK and find out what help is available to them.
