Harpers Fitness on Blue Peter
Harpers Fitness, the fitness brand for leading public access leisure provider Leisure Connection is constantly trying to encourage more people to enjoy the benefits of regular physical activity.
In a bid to offer children and young people something different when it comes to physical activity, Harpers Fitness teamed up with 2008 Britain's Got Talent finalists - Strike (Liam Richards and Danny Ball) to launch an exclusive and brand new concept in community leisure - Harpers Strike, which is a fusion of martial arts techniques and pre-choreographed routines to music.
Recognising its uniqueness and appeal to young people, MCG approached the staple of children's television - Blue Peter in a bid to galvanise their interest in the concept and programme. Within a couple of hours of MCG sending over the information the production assistant called back saying they wanted Strike to come into the studio and demonstrate their original take on performance martial arts. The boys proved so popular with the producers that they were chosen to be on the live show teaching the presenters and showing off their skills with two young Harpers Strike Students, creating a real buzz in the studio.
After much preparation, liaison and partnership working Strike appeared on Blue Peter in March.
The nine pilot schemes of Harpers Strike have now launched across its estate of 70 leisure and sports centres, achieving strong, regional coverage, as well as trade and TV exposure.
