Applying yourself

When you apply for a new job, try to get the company name right at least. Just a thought.

And it helps if you don’t address any correspondence to me as Mr Mortimer, or misspell my co-director Kate Gray’s surname. In fact, if you’ve anything about you, you will have found out that it is the third musketeer, the “C” in MCG, Sarah Chadwick, who takes the lead on all things recruitment and training here.

We’re currently on the look-out for talented account executives, so the standard of job applications we receive is very much on our radar.

If you’re reading this blog, there is a very fair chance that you are not one of those to whom this particular rant applies, as you have actually taken an interest in the company (or are one of our mums).

But you’d be amazed how many, otherwise impressive, C.V.s we receive here, from job-seekers who simply have not bothered to find out some basic background about the consultancy. It’s really not rocket science – just read our website!

Tell us what skills you’d bring to our national food and drink client portfolio. Your enthusiasm for our social media offer. What celebrity you’d suggest for the next special edition Damart vest for Heart Research UK. How you’d enjoy being part of a team working with the UK’s largest national network of independent accountants working specifically for small business.

It’s not sycophancy – it’s at the very least good manners, at best a clear demonstration of your interest in our industry and in us. And if you’ve got this far and are interested in an account executive role with us, a tip: it’s sarah.chadwick@mcgpr.co.uk – and she loves Green & Blacks chocolate.
